Powering Pluto; Exploiting Eris ~ 30 Aug 2021

Every now and again a movie hits the big screen that perfectly personifies the major transiting patterns overhead. Field of Dreams came out during a Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Capricorn. How great would it be to plow under the cash crop and make a baseball field to heal father issues? Whalerider came out in the time frame in which the enigmatic Sedna, goddess of the mammals of the sea, received her name. About a month following last December’s Pluto in Capricorn to Eris in Aries square, the movie CODA projected on the silver screen at the Sundance Film Festival, wowed the audiences and jury, and cleaned house in awards. As it should be. It’s a fabulous film that personifies the Pluto to Eris squares in play presently. It’s now streaming on Apple TV and can be found at a handful of theaters, evidently in accord with the two Pluto-Eris squares with which we now contend. This film is worth your time.

The basic story follows a high school senior, Ruby, with a love of music and singing who is inspired by her choir teacher to apply to music school in Boston. Problem is: everyone else in her family is deaf and they cannot wrap around her aspirations. And they need her to interpret what must be communicated about the family fishing business to the hearing world. An interesting concept emerges as Ruby’s story line evolves... she relates how she always felt looked at and ridiculed, especially because as a child she talked “like a deaf person.” And she intimates that she wished she could not have been seen in those moments. While replaying this film in my mind, it occurred to me that CODA is a Pluto-Eris story.

Pluto, lord of the underworld, has a clear line of sight on intention and motive. He knows what makes people tick, what will rile people into irrational actions, how to inspire unconscious stirring in mortals, and how to put himself in places where he can bring to the real world the truths of his realm. To accomplish his passages and to pull of some of his feats, he dons a helmet of invisibility. It’s hard to be seen or recognized or given the time of day if operating under the helmet (benefit) of Pluto’s stealth.

Eris’ thing is that she despises when she is shunned, avoided, ignored or discarded. Her antidote seems a bit misguided in that when rejected, she would align forces with a mayhem-making colleague and stir up serious mischief. Not the kind of behavior that warrants an engraved invitation to the social events of the year.

Now, Pluto in Capricorn, master of soulful intentions and motivation, with a knack for remaining veiled, stands at odds with Eris in Aries, who thinks it’s all about her and cannot tolerate being left out. Ruby, the main character in CODA despised her invisibility and when the family was being mocked by those not aware of their behavior, likely wished for invisibility. Now her life calling pushes Ruby to be centered in the brightest of spotlights.

Kind of how it is out there with the coronavirus. You gotta get out there and now you can’t again. Worse, when Pluto’s in play, self doubt and fear of rejection can inhibit putting ones best wares out there - pandemic or not. So rejection, or denial of talent easily occurs without even being rejected, thus inflaming Eris when nothing happened. It’s complicated.

Currently we navigate between last week’s Pluto to Eris square and the remaining quadrature that finishes off the pattern in October. Between these slow-moving planets the aspect is pretty much in play from a few weeks ago through All Hallow’s Eve of this year. Not only were/are the Pluto-Eris aspects coincident with Chiron patterns, personal planets in Libra transit the pattern in the next two months. These transits force every person to reevaluate what is needed from the world and how to present oneself in such a manner as to assure successful fulfillment of said needs and how to transition those needs into a fortification of purpose.

Let’s start with needs. On 5 September, Venus in Libra squares Pluto in Capricorn exactly and in orb, opposes Eris in Aries. Here’s the question: Where the hell in your creative arsenal is your power located? If you are a brilliant inventor, writer, painter, singer, software coder, social media genius how can you exploit those skills for total benefit to yourself and to everyone in life subsequently encountered? Is that what you want to do? More, dive deeper. What makes your soul sing? What do you know you must let the world know you can do? What if the world saw you shine and enjoyed the benefit of all you can do?

Nothing needs to be done with these cravings in the moment they are realized. Mercury, three times in their tenure during Libra squares Pluto and opposes Eris. Write it down. Journal. Do one of those poster board picture things so that the images speak thousands of words as to what you are about and what you want. Mercury’s first stirring to the long-running Pluto to Eris square occurs on 22 September. On 1 October, Mercury retrogrades back through the aspect. Then, they finish the pattern on 1 November.

In between the Mercurial patterns, on 17 October, the Sun in Libra squares Pluto and opposes Eris. Here all conscious attention applies to the realization this is who I am, what I got, what I can do, what my dharma moves me to do and there’s no stopping that... I am not invisible and I am content with the offering I have to make to the evolution of Earth. I am recognizable and a force for good with which all must reckon.

It’s simple after this. Four days later, 21 October, Mars in Libra squares Pluto and opposes Eris. Two thoughts to remove anticipatory concern for the aspects: Mars and Pluto share co-rulership over Scorpio. Mars rules Aries (Ares) and Ares and Eris constantly consorted to react to any perception of Eris’ rejection. Within both connections, a simpatico of sorts exists. Thus, here, with thorough effort and personal empowerment, any need for defensive invisibility evaporates and recognition of what one can bring to the table can be clearly perceived.

Granted, for those with planets in their nativity aligned with approximately 24 degrees of cardinal signs feel these transits the most. Still, the collective urgency is to make something from 2021 so that the Erissian isolation and exile of quarantine of the past many long months can be mitigated for personal and planetary good. Are you in? Invisibility is a bit like being muted and sitting with the video off in a Zoom communication. Engage. Get in there. If you’re going to Zoom, engage in all possible means. Bring the best you’ve cultivated within yourself forward with no concern for how it might be perceived. Think end game. How can everything you bear as an asset convert to make everything better in your world, and the world in general. That’s the ticket!
